As weekend bacchanalias go, the Brooklyn Flea in Fort Greene is already hard to beat: Rows of stands serving hot Salvadoran pupusas, kimchi-topped hot dogs, spicy fish tacos, and overall lusciousness as far as the eye can see. Now there’s another reason to drag yourself out of bed on Saturday mornings and hit the Flea (until November 21, when it shuts down for the season). The Bundt: A Bakery just launched there this weekend, and even with all the pig-out possibilities already at the market, the Bundt stand’s mini cakes are impossible to resist.
On Halloween afternoon, as I ran around trying to figure out how to pull off my dicey last-minute costume idea (a medieval torture device that doubles as a heavy metal band name; don’t ask), I stopped by for a quick sample of the cakes and ended up buying four miniature Bundts, one in each of the fall flavors: pumpkin-bourbon, chocolate-chile, honey-yogurt, and Guinness ginger stout ($15 for all four). I figured I could give the cakes to the hosts of the Halloween party I’m going to—and bribe them into ignoring my undoubtedly lame-ass costume. If there’s one crucial life lesson I’ve learned so far, it’s this: A good cake will cover a multitude of sins.
